Is the Indian Media Going for the “low hanging fruit”??

by tilaktilak @ 2007-08-25 - 10:58:59

Shilpa Shetty and Richard Gere. Sanjay Dutt in the jail. Amitabh Bacchan on his failed attempts of being a farmer. Now, Salman Khan and his black buck seem to have caught the fancy of the media. That’s what the media seems to be covering now, stories of great national importance.

Stories on what Sanjay Dutt has been eating in the jail. How much money did he get for building his first chair etc etc. I am sure there are people who love to read that.

But where are the real stories? The Nithari Killer just vanished from the newspapers and channels. The Jessica Lal murder case also got evaporated.

I think its time that the media comes out of its laziness and covers some real stories. Stories can actually have a lot of repercussions on our lives and are of national interest and significance.

I think we are confusing investigative journalism with keyhole journalism in this country. I hope I am wrong. In fact I pray that I am wrong or we all are heading for big trouble.
